Sports Equipment Segments & Revenues
By Dr. Roger Best and Dr. Dennis Howard

Global Sports Equipment revenues represent 22% of the $2.3 trillion global sports industry revenues. These revenues are derived from three segments.
• Sports & Fitness: Equipment needed to play and practice a sport; fitness equipment used for exercise and conditioning.
• Outdoor Recreation: Equipment used in camping, hunting and fishing, water sports, snow sports, and equestrian sports.
• Recreational Vehicles: Motorized equipment like campers, trailers, motor homes, snowmobiles, jet skis, motocross bikes, and off-road ATVs.
Worldwide Sports Equipment revenues were $510.1 billion in 2019. This is up from $369.6 billion in 2010.

The U.S. percentage of global sales during 2010-2019 period grew from 26.6% to 39.1%. This massive increase makes the United States an increasingly important market for both domestic and foreign companies hoping to grow their global sales.
Shown in Figure 2 are the revenues for these three sports equipment segments for 2019.
